Survey on Underage Gambling not so Specific

Underage gambling has always been a concern for both non-advocates and advocates of gambling as a form or recreation and entertainment.  Countless studies have been done to determine if minors are indeed partaking in betting, many of which have never adequately provided substantial evidence that underage gambling was or was not a serious problem.  Many of these studies have been circulating in times of late, due to gambling's popularity skyrocketing not just in online communities, but in countries and states where gambling is tolerated.

One such study was done in Indiana, and revealed some potentially alarming figures.  The Indiana Prevention Resource Center at Indian University cited that nearly 4.5% of high-school seniors claim to gamble at a casino one time per month.  You may be asking, "What is so wrong about gambling at a casino one time per month?".  Well, according to the Resource Center, that one time can prove to be very devastating to a young person who is more likely to blow their entire life savings, or max out a credit card.  And even if they are not problem gamblers, the fact that these minors (who must be twenty-one to gamble on one of Indiana's many riverboat casinos) are getting away with gambling in the first place has reason to draw concern.  Also in the study were results showing over 1% of high school seniors gambling at casinos on a regular basis.

However, it is likely that the report is biased and flawed in some respects.  For instance, some say that the survey did not specifically ask the teens if their experiences gambling took place on riverboat casinos.  Therefore, many suspect that some teens may have considered other gambling venues, such as church charities, in their answers. 

This is the first time the survey was executed, which was actually an addition to the previous survey which  posed questions about substance abuse amongst high school students and teenagers.
