Ameristar Casinos Reopens Vicksburg Casino

Several Mississippi casinos did not make it through Hurricane Katrina, including the well-known Hard Rock Casino.  One that did make it through relatively unscathed, however, was Vicksburg casino.  Although it was not apparent just how many gamblers showed up when the Vicksburg opened its doors back up at 4 p.m., casino workers are back to work after being away  for the duration of the storm.  Vicksburg Casino Management announced that all workers will be paid for the missed days of working, and that those who suffered property damage or who are close with those who have suffered, would be helped in whatever way they could.

Ray Neilsen, the General Manage for Ameristar Casinos, stated the entire Vicksburg staff was very thankful that all of its 950 plus workers were alive and well after the Hurricane.  He went on to say that the entire Gulf region is in the companies prayers and good wishes.  Other casinos were completely destroyed, displacing thousands of workers who no longer have a job to return to.

And as the Vicksburg gets its slot machines spinning again and its buffet serving hot food, hopefully there will be gamblers still willing to pump money into a very needy economy.  Ameristar operates several casinos in the region along the Mississippi River, including some in St. Charles, Kansas City and Colorado.  And when the Gulf region of Louisiana and Mississippi gets back on its feet again, the Vicksburg will be in top form again, helping to rebuild the region with millions in gambling taxes.
