Poll Shows That Ohio Residents
Support Betting
A poll carried out by Mason-Dixon Polling
and Research has revealed that over 60% of Ohio residents are in support
of legalizing gambling. The subject has been quite hot lately, with
Indian tribes trying to bring gambling to different areas in the state and
some high-ranking politicians doing all they can to prevent it from being
legalized.
The survey was published by the Ohio Plains
Dealer, in which, statistics revealed that the bulk of those who are in
support of betting in Ohio are Caucasian men, predominately over thirty-five
years of age and who reside in the West Side of Ohio. There were no
strong factors that distinguished race, gender and sociological conditions,
other than a combination of statistics that made up the majority of those in
favor of casinos going up in the potato state.
One of the biggest pros for bringing casinos
to Ohio, and gathering support from those who do not necessarily gamble, is
the revenue that would come from the few casinos that could operate if laws
were to be passed. Another study not related to the poll was one that
reported over $900 million in betting revenue could potentially be gathered
by Ohio casinos. With this would come all of the direct effects of
legalized gambling, including problem gamblers as well as millions in taxes
that could be used for education and social programs in the state of Ohio.
