Virginia Police Raise Money
with Food and Betting
We all know how annoying that call from a telemarketer can be just as we are
sitting down to eat supper. Yet, when it's a good cause, like one's local
law enforcement, fire fighters of Lion's Club, we are still inclined to at least
hear them out and give a donation. However, those who live in Clarksburg,
Virginia will not have to deliberate the option at all, now that a
Clarksburg-based Fraternal Police Order (FPO) is going to be opening a
restaurant with betting slot machines.
The FPO, which hitherto would hold bingo betting charities and telemarketing
campaigns, says the new plan should bring in more funds that are badly needed.
In addition, it would put an end to the telemarketing, which the group says they
hate just as much as those who get the telephone calls.
According to West Virginia law, fraternal, non-profit organizations are
permitted to operate up to ten video poker betting machines, which the FOP says
they will do so by strictly abiding by the state regulations. And by
running the restaurant as well as the video poker machines, the FOP thinks the
new system will give the public more for their monetary contributions.
Instead of a bumper sticker, donators can get a fresh, hot meal, some
entertainment, and maybe even some extra cash in the name of betting.
